Salman Beats Aamir!
At Rs. 102.6 crore, Bajrangi Bhaijaan breaks Dhoom 3's record of highest first weekend collection
Salman Khan's Bajrangi Bhaijaan arrived with a lot of expectations. If the numbers are any indication, it has sure lived up to all of them.
The first weekend collections are just out. And they're staggering!
The Kabir Khan-directed film has amassed Rs. 102.6 crore - the highest first weekend collections for any Bollywood film.
That's almost 2 crores more than Aamir Khan's Dhoom 3, which held the distinction of having the highest first weekend collections until now. Its Hindi version had collected Rs. 100.76 crore over the weekend.
Bajrangi Bhaijaan raked in Rs. 38.75 crore on Sunday, which is also the highest single day collection for any Hindi film.
So what's the reason behind its runaway success?
Trade analyst Komal Nahta says, "The film has touched the hearts of the people and the word of mouth is so strong that it will only get bigger from here. I assume it will make Rs. 300 crore easily."
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh thinks that the movie's success should not only be attributed to Salman but also to the film's content. "This is Salman's finest performance. Every actor should try something different and Salman finally did it. Bajrangi Bhaijaan doesn't have your typical song-and-dance routine. It has minimal romance, no unnecessary fights, what a refreshing change! Just what we were waiting for."
Well, Bajrangi Bhaijaan has already become the fastest 100-crore grosser of Bollywood. Now, it remains to be seen whether it breaks any more records. Watch out, Aamir!
